Small town kid, mostly grew up at Lake Taupo. Seven years in Korea. Now Auckland.
Picked up some Korean (TOPIK 1 done) along the way and am currently making stubborn if unspectacular progress in Mandarin (HSK 1 & 2 done). I also pursued some Maori language study (Te Ara Reo Maori Level 1 done) and hope to progress further in that. I find languages interesting for the same reason I find most things interesting - they reveal how differently people organise the world in their heads.
I walk a lot, fish occasionally, dabble in home baking with mixed results, and have a probably unhealthy relationship with coffee. Evenings tend toward old school rock or classical music, sci-fi literature, D&D, and enjoying shows or movies that convey strange or dystopian worlds (think Twin Peaks or Blade Runner).
I find the current pace of technological change incredibly exhilarating. New tools, new possibilities, new ways of thinking about old problems. I'm very much here for it.
